2007 LAND USE/LAND COVER DATA
The Delaware Office of Management and Budget has published a 2007 statewide update of Land Use and Land Cover data as part of a larger project to update statewide orthophotography, elevation data, and land use/land cover. This data set updates the 2002 Land Use/Land Cover data. Funding for this project was provided by the Delaware Office of Management and Budget, DNREC, DelDOT, the U.S. Geological Survey Geospatial Information Office, The National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, all three Delaware Counties and the City of Dover.
Accessing the Data
- The 2007 Land Use/Land Cover is available via the Delaware DataMIL as a part of the browser-based Map Lab and as an Internet Map Service.
- 2007_delaware_lulc.zip -- The 2007 Land Use/Land Cover data presented as a statewide shapefile, ZIPPED together with metadata files in both HTML and XML format, a spreadsheet showing suggested cartographic symbology, and a LYR file of that symbology. The data set is in the Delaware State Plane Coordinate System, using the North American Datum of 1983, in meters.
Supporting Information
- The 2007 Land Use/Land Cover data were classified using the Anderson et al Land Classification System with a wetlands/wooded areas enhancement designed by Delaware forestry and natural resources managers. A list of updated land use/land cover codes is provided as a txt file.
- A simplified cartographic symbology for this data set was developed by land use planning and environmental resources managers under the leadership of Delaware Geological Survey staff. It combines several categories to make the data more practical for creating cartographic map products. This suggested symbology is available as a PDF legend and as a spreadsheet.
